Sally Whittaker was born on the 3rd May 1963 in the Lancashire mill town of Middleton, near Oldham. At the age of fifteen she and her family moved to Somerset.She trained at the Mountview Theatre School, north London. She appeared as a dancer in "The Metal Mickey Roadshow" and upon leaving Mountview joined the Abbadabba Theatre Company and toured America performing in shows as diverse as old time music hall and "Beauty and the Beast".
One of her first television appearances was as a check out girl in an advert for Tesco. In an episode of "Juliet Bravo", the popular Lancashire set police drama, she played a young heroin addict, a role for which she received several rave reviews.
She made her debut as a feisty Sally Seddon in "Coronation Street" in January 1986 when she fell for motor mechanic Kevin Webster. Her original contract was just for four weeks but her romance with Kevin and her frequent bust-ups with Hilda Ogden lead to her becoming a viewers favourite and she has remained in the "Street" ever since, save for a short break in 1992 when she returned to the theatre for a production of "A Taste of Honey" in Bolton.
Sally enjoys travelling and has visited many exotic locations such as Japan, America, Hong Kong, Thailand and Kenya. It was whilst in India in 1999 that she made her big screen debut in the Bollywood film "Ek Alag Mausam", a charity film for ActionAid made in Bangalore. Sally also enjoys the odd game of tennis, whilst her favourite food is Japanese. She once did a parachute jump which raised around £ 100,000 for charity. She is superstitious and won't walk under ladders and one day she would like to write a book.
Sally has a younger brother and a half-sister. She is married to scriptwriter Tim Dynevor and they have two children, Phoebe and Samuel Charles.
